Drugs in Sport - Random Drug Testing
Random drug testing is carried out in New South Wales and severe mandatory penalties will be imposed if a swimmer shows a positive result. A list of banned substances can be obtained from club officials. Also note that some over-the-counter preparations such as Sudafed and Actifed will also lead to a positive result. Should a swimmer be prescribed a banned substance he or she should withdraw from competition immediately and get medical advice as to the length of time the residue will remain in his or her system.
