Club Championships
CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRY CARDS
Championship events will be held across the whole season. For events held in Nov & Dec, entries for the 400m Freestyle Championships will close on 25 OCT 2008. Entries for 200m Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke & Butterfly will close on 15 NOV 2008. Championship events for 25m, 50m (Sprint Day), 100m & 200 Indiv. Medley will be held in Feb & March 2009. These entries will close on 7 February 2009. Entry fee is $1.00 per event.
CHAMPIONSHIP CATEGORIES
Every swimmer competes in 3 categories (but swims only once per event):
- Age – This is the narrow age range they are in as at 31 December of the year of the commencement of the summer season. eg. for the season 2007 - 08, the age is of 31 December 2007. The age ranges are 7 and under, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 etc.
- Age Group – This is the general age group. The age groups are Mini (10 and under) Sub-Junior (11 to 13), Junior (14 to 16) and Senior (17 and over).
- Open – All swimmers may compete in this category.
The races that contribute to determining the overall championship, in each category, are on page 9 of the club’s log book.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to compete in the Club Championship events, a swimmer must, as at the closing date for entries, be financial and be a “first claim” member. No correspondence or discussion will be considered regarding these rules.
CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
- Competitor’s AGE is the age they will be on the 31 December 2008.
- Pg 9 of the club’s log book shows those events in which a swimmer collects championship points..
- Competitors in Championships are competing in their Age events (7 & under, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 etc) plus Age Group events (Mini events for those 10 years and under, Sub-Junior events for those 11, 12 or 13 years, Junior events for those 14, 15 or 16 years, Senior events for those 17 years and over). There are also Open events.
- Each swimmer swims an event once only and their time is used to determine their respective Age, Age Group and Open category placing.
- All events will be marshalled from fastest to slowest with Girls and Boys separate.
- The championship events are swum in conjunction with the existing Saturday program.
- Nominated times for each event will be based upon the calculation of the fastest time of the last three times swum for that stroke / distance.
- Championship Points will be awarded towards overall results in each category as follows:-
- 1st - 10 points;
- 2nd - 7 points;
- 3rd - 5 points;
- 4th - 4 points;
- 5th - 3 points;
- 6th - 2 points;
- Remaining finishers - 1 point.
- When swimming a Championship event, points will also be accrued for the ‘Point Score’ awards as each race is considered a ‘Scratch’ race, (ie gain 2 points for swimming, plus 2 points if the swimmer’s time is improved.)
AWARDS
For the 25m, 50m and 100m events, ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placegetters in the individual Age and Open events. For the 200m and 400m events, ribbons will be awarded to the first, second and third placegetters for the Age Group. Trophies will be awarded on Presentation Day to 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners in all championship events. Swimmers achieving 1st, 2nd or 3rd places in more than one event, may be awarded a single (appropriately sized and engraved) trophy to cover the combined place achievements.
200M FORMSTROKE CHAMPIONSHIP
A ‘sub-set’ of the Club championships -Consists of 200m Backstroke & 200m Breaststroke for 13yrs & Under; and 200m Backstroke, 200m Breaststroke & 200m Butterfly for 14yrs & Over. A perpetual trophy is awarded to 14yrs & Over male and female swimmers with maximum points as per table above.
